(a) Each regular employee upon notification to his department head, in such form as the department head prescribes, of the employee's intention to retire from the City service shall be entitled to a terminal leave of absence equal to his accumulated sick leave or to the transfer of his sick leave credit to some other agency as provided by Section 143.08 and Ohio R. C 124.38. An employee may receive one or more payments under this section, but the aggregate value of accrued but unused sick leave credit that is paid shall not exceed, for all payments, the value of 180 days of accrued but unused sick leave. If the employee elects to take his terminal leave, he may do so only after submission of his notice of intent to retire and prior to the effective date thereof. "Retirement", as used in this section, means disability or service retirement under the State or Municipal retirement system.
(Ord. 10-1980. Passed 3-17-80.)
(b) In addition to the payment for accumulated sick leave provided for in subsection (a) hereof, a regular employee retiring from the City service may elect to receive payment for any accrued but unused vacation days rather than take time off prior to retirement. An electing employee shall receive the vacation payment as part of his final paycheck from the City.
