(a) Allowances.
(1) A clothing allowance account amount to a maximum of six hundred dollars ($600.00) per year shall be held in escrow for the Chief of Police. Upon presentation of valid receipts to the City Administrator, the Chief shall be reimbursed by pay outs from his escrow account. To qualify, receipts shall indicate the purchase of uniforms and or appurtenances or the professional cleaning, altering, or repairing of such uniforms or appurtenances. As an alternative to this procedure arrangements may be made for suppliers to bill the City directly for any such purchases. The Chief may spend up to two hundred dollars ($200.00) of the six hundred dollars ($600.00) allowance on other than strictly uniform purchases. Uniform purchases will be considered to be purchases of pants, shirts, shoes, vests and coats, ties, belts, leather goods, socks, gloves or hats. If the maximum of six hundred dollars ($600.00) per year is not reimbursed, the remaining money reverts to the City general fund.
(2) Any legitimate expense allowance authorized by ordinance or established City policy shall be in addition to regular salary and shall not be deducted from money salary payable.
(3) When traveling on City business the Chief shall take a City vehicle when available, unless he chooses to use his own vehicle at his expense. When required to use his own vehicle on official City business or for City related travel, approved by the City Administrator, he shall be reimbursed at the rate of eighteen cents (18¢) per mile plus parking expenses incurred for which receipts are presented to the treasurer.
(4) When the Chief travels on official business or for taking professional training, approved by the City Administrator, he shall be reimbursed for reasonable travel expenses, parking, lodging and meals. The City Administrator may establish maximum reimbursement for travel expenses.
(5) Registration fees for conferences, seminars or other such programs deemed to be in the best interest of the City, when approved by the City Administrator, shall be paid by the City, either directly or by reimbursement to the Chief. If LEAA or other financial aid is unavailable, and if approved by the City Administrator in advance, the Chief may be reimbursed for successfully completing other advanced training to upgrade the performance of his job duties and the image of municipal service.
(b) Vacations.
(1) The Chief of Police shall be eligible to receive paid vacations on the following basis.

(2) Vacations shall be scheduled by the City Administrator under such rules and regulations as he may prescribe in order that efficiency and economy of the City government will not be impaired. Vacations shall not be cumulative from year to year. Any unused vacation days at the end of the calendar year shall be lost by the Chief. In the event, while on vacation, he is hospitalized for any reason, the status shall at once be changed from vacation to sick leave.
