§ 35.41 BEREAVEMENT LEAVE.
   (A)   City sworn police officers and firefighters are entitled to paid bereavement leave as of their date of hire. An employee wishing to take time off for the death of a family member should notify the department head immediately.
   (B)   Employees are eligible for leave with pay for attending the funeral of a relative or other member of the household. Such leave may be granted upon the death of:
      (1)   A spouse;
      (2)   A father, mother, son, step-son, daughter, step-daughter, brother, half-brother, step-brother, sister, half-sister, step-sister, grandparent, grandchildren, step-grandchildren, aunt, uncle or the spouse of any of these;
      (3)   Persons listed in division (B)(2) above that are members of the employee’s spouse’s family;
      (4)   A person living in the same household with the employee.
   (C)   Exceptions may be granted at the discretion of the department head for other deaths.
   (D)   For sworn police officers and firefighters working a 40-hour week, bereavement leave should not exceed three regularly scheduled working days, and the days must be in conjunction with the date of the death or the funeral. Five regularly scheduled working days in conjunction with the date of death or the funeral may be granted to the employee if the funeral site is over 250 miles from Noblesville.
   (E)   For firefighters working a 56-hour week, bereavement leave should not exceed two regularly scheduled 24-hour shifts, and the shifts must be in conjunction with the date of the death or the funeral. Two regularly scheduled 24-hour shifts in conjunction with the date of death or the funeral may be granted to the employee if the funeral site is over 250 miles from Noblesville.
