§ 71.07 LOAD LIMITS; EXCESSIVE SIZE AND WEIGHT.
   (A)   Temporary embargo. If the Council declares an embargo when it appears by reason of deterioration, rain, snow or other climatic conditions that certain streets will be seriously damaged or destroyed by vehicles weighing in excess of an amount specified by the signs, no such vehicles shall be operated on streets so designated by such signs.

   (B)   Permits for excess size and weight. The City Administrator/Clerk may, upon application in writing and good cause being shown therefor, issue a special permit in writing authorizing the applicant to operate or move a vehicle or combination of vehicles of a size or weight or load exceeding the maximum specified by state law or city ordinance over those streets named in the permit which are under the jurisdiction of the city and for which the city is responsible for maintenance.

   (C)   Load limits upon certain street. When signs are erected giving notice thereof, no person shall operate any vehicle with a gross weight in excess of the amounts specified on such signs at any time.

   (D)   Load limits on bridges. Where it has been determined that any city bridge has a capacity less than the maximum permitted on the streets of the city, or on the street serving the bridge, the City Administrator/Clerk may cause to be posted and maintained, signs on said bridge and at suitable distances ahead of the entrances thereof to warn drivers of such maximum load limits, and no person shall drive a vehicle weighing, loaded or unloaded, upon said bridge in excess of such posted limit.
