Mobile food units may be inspected by the Newton Fire Department prior to operations within the city. All Class III and IV mobile food units, as classified by the Iowa Department of Inspections and Appeals, shall have an acceptable fire suppression system, as determined by the Newton Fire Department.
(A) Inspections are required annually and prior to the sale of food or beverages to the public. It shall be the obligation of the mobile food unit vendor or designee to schedule the inspection with the Newton Fire Department and the request shall be submitted at least 48 hours prior to any planned operations.
(B) The mobile food unit shall be established and ready to serve patrons at the time of inspection.
(C) Upon completion of the annual inspection, if the Newton Fire Department determines that the mobile food unit passed the inspection, the Fire Chief or designee shall sign the mobile food unit license application and identify any conditions for operation as deemed appropriate as a result of said inspection.
(D) At its discretion, the Newton Fire Department may accept an inspection report of the mobile food unit from another city’s fire inspector to satisfy the annual inspection requirement. Applicant is obligated to contact the Newton Fire Department to verify whether or not another community’s inspection is adequate to fulfill the City of Newton’s inspection requirements, to confirm the mobile food unit is compliant with all other applicable requirements, and/or to provide other documents as needed.
