(A) (1) A sign structure, which supports or is designed to support a sign as defined in Chapter 158, shall either be completely removed or repurposed after a business has been permanently closed.
(2) After a business permanently closes, the property owner is responsible for removing the former occupant sign within 30 calendar days. If a former occupant sign remains after a period of 180 days, it shall be deemed abandoned. Staff shall first send written notice to the recorded property owner to remove or repurpose the sign structure by a specified deadline. Failure to comply with the notice shall result in the city abating the violation and having the sign structure removed entirely at the owner’s expense and/or issue a municipal infraction citation to the owner.
(B) A sign structure that qualifies as a dilapidated sign, as prohibited by § 158.158, shall be ordered removed within 60 days of the date of a written notice.
