Any vacancy occurring in the Town Council, or in any other elective office of the town, shall be filled by appointment by the Council, at a special meeting of the Trustees, called for that purpose, of which meeting not less than 5 days notice in writing shall be given to each member of the Town Council by the Clerk-Treasurer of the town; but such appointments, if to fill a vacancy in the office of Trustees, shall be made from the ward in which the vacancy occurred, and no appointment shall extend beyond the remainder of that term.
