§ 71.05 POLICE OFFICERS AND FIREFIGHTERS; DUTIES.
   (A)   It shall be the duty of the Chief of Police and any police officers to enforce the traffic regulations of the city and all of the state vehicle laws applicable to traffic in the city, to make arrests for traffic violations, to investigate accidents, to cooperate with other municipal officials in the administration of the traffic laws and in developing ways to improve traffic conditions, and to carry out those duties specifically imposed upon the officers by this chapter and any other traffic or related ordinances of the city.
   (B)   (1)   The Chief of Police and his or her assistants are hereby authorized to direct all traffic by voice, hand or signal, in conformance with traffic laws and ordinances.
      (2)   In the event of a fire, other emergency or to expedite traffic or safeguard pedestrians, the officers may direct traffic as conditions may require, notwithstanding the provisions of the traffic laws and ordinances.
   (C)   Firefighters, when at the scene of a fire, may direct or assist the police in directing traffic.
