For garages not exceeding 600 square feet in area:
(A) A garage not exceeding 600 square feet in area and used for the storage of passenger automobiles or trucks of 1 ton or less capacity may be attached to or form a part of a residence building or a business building if separated from other occupancies by walls, partitions, and ceilings of materials to restrict the passage of gases, smoke, and odor from the garage to other parts of the building.
(B) Materials and construction provided for this purpose shall be at least equivalent in fire resistance and gas tightness to 1-inch tongue-and-groove wooden boards, on garage side of supporting studs, free of knot holes, with gypsum wall boards not less than 3/8 inch in thickness nailed through the wooden boards into the studs and rafters, using 2-inch nails, and with 4-inch strips of gypsum wall board and with gypsum plaster fillings at intersection of walls and of walls with ceilings and floors. Metal lath and gypsum plaster or gypsum lath and plaster will be acceptable.
(C) Openings from the building into garage shall be restricted to a single doorway; the opening shall be provided with a flush type wooden door of not less than 1-3/4 inches nominal thickness equipped with an approved self-closing device.
(D) When doorway connects directly with any room in which there is any direct-fire heating device or gas fixture, it shall have a sill raised at least 8 inches above the garage floor level; or the doorway shall lead into a vestibule from which a second door connects with the room.
(E) Garage floor shall be of concrete, or equally fire resistive and impervious material, and shall have a slope sufficient to permit natural drainage of gases, oil, and water to the outside.
(F) There shall be no pit in any floor; nor shall there be any artificial light other than incandescent electric lights. (Section 1305, National Board of Fire Underwriters.)
