(A) In no case shall footings be less than 24 inches below grade.
(B) Chimneys hereafter erected within or attached to a structure shall be constructed of brick, solid block masonry, or reinforced concrete built from the ground up and supported on a masonry footing of self-supporting fireproof construction.
(C) The chimneys shall extend at least 3 feet above the highest point where they pass through the roof of the building and at least 2 feet higher than any ridge within 10 feet of the chimney.
(D) Chimneys for all heating appliances (except for gas burning appliances) require flue lining, except chimneys with a solid masonry wall of 8 inches or more. Required flue linings shall be made of fire clay or other refractory clay to withstand the action of flue gases and temperature of not less than 2,000°F, or of cast iron of approved quality, form, and construction. Flue linings shall start from a point not less than 8 inches below the intake or, in case of fireplaces, from the throat of the fireplace. They shall extend nearly vertical as possible for the entire height of the chimney. Flue linings shall be built ahead of the construction of the chimney as it is carried up, carefully bedded one on the other in mortar with close-fitting joints left smooth on the inside.
(E) Supporting chimneys on wood scaffolding will not be tolerated.
