§ 91.16 RABIES QUARANTINE OF ANIMALS.
   (A)   Any animal which has caused injury and/or death to a human by means of a bite and/or scratch shall be quarantined. The quarantine shall be consistent with the practices, rules, and regulations of the county health department and the state Board of Animal Health.
   (B)   Any owner who fails to properly quarantine his/her animal is subject to citation for violation of this chapter, and the animal may be impounded at the animal shelter or a licensed animal clinic or animal hospital for the reminder of its quarantine period. The owner shall be responsible for all applicable fees as set forth in § 91.98 during the quarantine period if held at the animal shelter.
   (C)   Any animal whose owner is unavailable or incapable of quarantining the animal is subject to the animal being taken by an animal control officer and quarantined at the animal shelter or a licensed animal clinic or animal hospital for the quarantine period.
   (D)   Any owner of an animal which must be quarantined may elect to board such animal at the animal shelter for the quarantine period, if space is available, and must pay certain fees in accordance with § 91.98 of this chapter. Any owner of an animal which must be quarantined may elect to surrender such animal to the animal shelter and must pay certain fees in accordance with § 91.98 of this chapter.
   (E)   Any quarantined animal not reclaimed by an owner within 24 hours of the expiration of the prescribed period of quarantine shall be humanely euthanized.
   (F)   Any human bitten and/or scratched by an animal, or any physician or other medical professional or medical institution treating such an injury, shall report the bite and/or scratch to the animal shelter and/or the county health department within 24 hours.
   (G)   Any stray animal which bites and/or scratches a human shall be quarantined at the animal shelter.
   (H)   Any dangerous animal that cannot be vaccinated against rabies with an approved rabies vaccine, or any animal which has no established rabies quarantine observation period, which bites and/or scratches a human, is to be euthanized and its head shall be sent to the state Department of Heath for examination all at the expense of its owner or harborer for examination for rabies.
   (I)   Any person or entity who violates this section shall be subject to the penalty provided in § 91.99 of this chapter.
