The City of Nelsonville authorizes the use of ATVs on city streets in accordance with the following regulations. ATV's that meet all the following requirements will be allowed to operate on all city streets.
(A) Non-licensed ATVs are permitted on all roadways from Sunrise - Sundown seven days per week unless a special event is organized with City approval then hours can be extended.
(B) All traffic laws apply, vehicles must be insured, ridden by licensed drivers 18 and older.
(C) All other Ohio laws will apply.
(D) ATV's will be allowed to operate on city streets of Nelsonville beginning April 15 each year. The last date ATV's will be allowed to operate on city streets is December 15 each year.
(E) In addition to the below rules, ATVs must be equipped with one rear view mirror.
(F) If a vehicle is not equipped with turn signals, ATV operators must use hand signals per R.C. § 4511.40.
(G) Vehicles must be equipped with a working rear brake light.
(H) ATV exhaust noise must meet the decibel level set forth in R.C. § 4519.20.
(I) Vehicles must be equipped with a working horn.
(J) Vehicles must not create excessive mud/dirt on city streets.
(K) This section will be in effect until December 31, 2023.
(L) Per R.C. § 4519.20 equipment rules, these regulations will apply and be enforced by the Nelsonville Police Department.
