(A) Establishment. There is hereby established the position of Community Planning and Development Director.
(B) Appointment. The Mayor shall appoint a Community Planning and Development Director and shall report directly to the mayor.
(C) Compensation. The compensation of this position shall be compensated as established by City Council by ordinance.
(D) Powers and duties of this official shall include but not be limited to the following:
(1) To promote for new business development in our community and new residential growth;
(2) To engage existing and promote local businesses to enhance our business community;
(3) To facilitate community development and identify property that would benefit from the City’s assistance to make the property more enticing to potential purchasers wanting to locate in Mt. Washington. Such assistance might include the city purchase and city improving the property;
(4) To assist with advertising and promotional efforts;
(5) To develop and maintain strong working relationships with the general public, area businesses, clients, and the media;
(6) To act as a liaison for community related events;
(7) To confer with the Mayor and/or the Mt. Washington City Council to identify and assist with city business recruitment opportunities;
(8) To assist enactment of new city ordinances and the amendment of existing ordinances as relate to community development and planning, and conformance to city plans and regulations through code enforcement;
(9) To communicate between local groups, such as, the Bullitt County Economic Development Authority, the Bullitt Chamber of Commerce, any Bullitt County Small Business Association;
(10) To further community development goals and community development related tasks;
(11) To attend Bullitt County Fiscal Court meetings, attend Mt. Washington City Council meetings and other political and community oriented meetings serve on committees as directed by the Mayor of the City of Mt. Washington;
(12) To foster a progressive, business friendly environment so that current and new businesses can thrive;
(13) To identify existing inventory of available buildings, business and residential development sites within the community, including public and private buildings and vacant land;
(14) To perform the duties of our Main Street Director, and continue to perform all duties associated with the City’s Main Street program, community development, and champion the four pillars of the Main Street Program through the business community;
(15) To identify and coordinate volunteers to assist with community events; promote and facilitate community development programs such as tourism zones; facade grant programs and technology zones;
(16) To assist businesses in sales, marketing, business development, and project management;
(17) To be familiar with state and local statutes and regulations that govern the city’s community planning and development initiatives, and the administrative policies and the city’s Main Street Program.
(18) To make presentations to supervisors, boards, commissions, civic groups, businesses, individuals, and the general public on economic development issues;
(19) To maintain a flexible work schedule to accommodate the outreach requirements for the job including evenings and weekend hours and community meetings, workshops, festivals’ and city sponsored events; and
(20) To attend professional development workshops and conferences to keep abreast of trends and developments in the field of community development and to represent the interest of the City of Mt. Washington.
