(A) (1) Salaried and full-time employees of the city, its departments or utilities (except the Fire Department) shall be entitled to paid vacation as follows:
(a) After serving a period of one year: ten working days vacation per year.
(b) After five consecutive years: 15 working days vacation per year.
(c) After ten consecutive years: 20 working days vacation per year.
(d) After 15 consecutive years: 25 working days vacation per year.
(e) The maximum allowable vacation days after 15 consecutive years shall be 25 working days vacation per year.
(2) Employees of the City Fire Department shall be entitled to paid vacation as follows:
(a) After serving a period of one year: two weeks vacation per year.
(b) After ten consecutive years: three weeks vacation per year.
(c) After 15 consecutive years: four weeks vacation per year.
(B) The wording
CONSECUTIVE does not apply to police or fire personnel, that may have a break-in-service in which time lost continued to accrue toward years of service.
(C) Unused vacation time may not be carried over to the next year. All salaried and full-time employees may be paid for unused vacation time if the city is notified by November 1 and according to the following guidelines. Unused vacation payment will be made with the employee’s regular, final pay that year.
(1) An employee with less than 15 years service with the city may be paid a maximum of one week of unused vacation.
(2) An employee with a minimum of 15 years service with the city may be paid a maximum of two weeks of unused vacation.
(D) It is recommended that at least a full week of vacation be taken at a time. Less than a full week of vacation may be taken, if prior approval of the department head is obtained, subject to the department’s work load, others on vacation, sick or personal leave, and manpower availability.
(E) The vacation time indicated is earned in one year and is taken in the following year.
(F) Upon the death, resignation, or termination of an employee, payment for unused vacation will be made according to the months worked (Example: six months working time in present year, an employee will be entitled to one-half of his vacation time). Approval will be made at the next regular meeting of the board having jurisdiction over that employee.
(G) Vacation pay shall be calculated at an employee’s regular week’s pay rate.
