§ 31.29 CODE ENFORCEMENT OFFICER.
   (A)   The Board of Public Works and Safety (Board) shall appoint an individual as a special police officer to perform the duties of Code Enforcement Officer within the city. Hereinafter this officer shall be referred to as the Code Enforcement Officer.
   (B)   The Code Enforcement Officer shall serve at the pleasure of the Board and may be removed by the Board at any time without notice and without assigning any cause.
   (C)   The Code Enforcement Officer shall serve under the supervision of the Police Chief. The Code Enforcement Officer shall report to the Chief of Police, Mayor and Board, as requested. The Code Enforcement Officer shall obey all laws of the State of Indiana and all ordinances and resolutions of the city, and all rules, regulations and SOPs of the Mt. Vernon Police Department as they apply to the duties authorized herein.
   (D)   The Code Enforcement Officer shall be provided and shall wear a uniform and be assigned identification so long as it is easily distinguishable from the uniform of City of Mt. Vernon, Posey County and State of Indiana regular police officers.
   (E)   The Code Enforcement Officer shall have the authority to investigate and take all actions necessary to enforce all provisions as provided by law and duly adopted ordinances and resolutions. These powers and duties shall not be exclusive to the Code Enforcement Officer. The Code Enforcement Officer shall also have the power to run vehicle verification, title and registrations, identification, and driver's license verifications through agencies holding and records containing said information, including, but not limited to the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles and IDACS, during and in the course of performing the Officer's duties. The Code Enforcement Officer shall have all powers, privileges, and duties established by the job description adopted by the Board for the Code Enforcement Officer position.
   (F)   The compensation of the Code Enforcement Officer shall be set by the city's annual salary ordinance.
   (G)   The person appointed as Code Enforcement Officer may also be appointed as the Animal Control Officer.
