For the purpose of this chapter, the following definitions shall apply unless the context clearly indicates or requires a different meaning.
BUSINESS. The marketing activity conducted for the sale of goods or services for a profit.
EXEMPT ORGANIZATIONS. Non-profit or not-for-profit corporations, religious organizations, school corporations, charitable organizations, hospital and nursing care facilities, and libraries.
INDIVIDUAL. A person, partnership, sole proprietorship, corporation, limited partnership, or joint venture.
MERCHANDISE. Manufactured goods, wares, furniture, machinery, tools, equipment, clothes, animal and vegetable produce that is not directly made, grown, raised, produced or manufactured by the individual peddler or merchant.
PEDDLER. An individual who sells tangible commodities or merchandise from house to house, store to store, on any street, or in any public place; and whose sales are not made from one established location, except where they are made in a street or a public place.
TEMPORARY BUSINESS. The sale of goods or services by a business operating in the city for less than 48 hours, or operating out of a vehicle, truck, trailer or other mobile unit.
TRANSIENT MERCHANT. An individual who sells commodities or merchandise from a private premise, but remains at one place for that purpose for temporary periods only, not to exceed 90 days.
