This chapter is enacted to reduce the potential for situations where employees of certain businesses are exposed to potential death and/or injuries because of the actions of people with criminal intent.

“Business” means an establishment, including convenience stores, for retail sale of petroleum products and other supplies for motor vehicles, as well as for the retail sale of more than 20 consumer products typically sold in grocery stores, and any such establishment which routinely remains open for business for some or all of the hours between 5:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m.

“Surveillance camera” means any video tape camera or similar video recording device capable of producing a retrievable image on film or tape that can be made a permanent record and that can be enlarged through projection or other means.

“Consumer products” means all food which is subject to sales tax and all food which is not subject to sales tax under Chapter 422 of the Code of Iowa, except foods prepared for immediate consumption.
