§ 98.029 REMOVAL OF SURFACE AND BASE.
   (A)   Prior to the removal of an asphalt paving surface, a smooth vertical joint shall be cut through the surface and completely around the area to be removed. This joint may be made with an ax or any suitable tool that is approved by the City Manager or his or her authorized representative. Prior to the removal of any concrete paving surface or concrete base, a vertical joint shall be cut with a concrete saw completely around the area to be removed. This cut shall be of sufficient depth to insure a smooth joint when a concrete paving surface or concrete base is removed. The width of concrete removed shall conform to Exhibit A, “Street Excavations and Paving Cuts,” incorporated as a part of this subchapter.
   (B)   Upon approval of the City Manager, or his or her authorized representative, the width of a trench excavation in instances where appropriate tamping equipment is provided may be less than the minimum 24 inches specified on Appendix A; provided, however, that in all instances the width of the improved or paved surface to be removed and replaced as a result of such trench excavation shall not be less than the minimum 24 inches so specified on Appendix A and that the fee for issuance of the street excavation permit shall be calculated on the basis of said 24-inch minimum width. Any brick surface shall be removed with as little damage as possible to the brick.
