§ 70.08 APPLICATION OF PROVISIONS TO AUTHORIZED EMERGENCY VEHICLES.
   (A)   The provisions of this title regulating the operation, parking and standing of vehicles shall apply to authorized emergency vehicles, except that a driver, when operating any such vehicle in an emergency or in the immediate pursuit of an actual or suspected violator of the law, except when otherwise directed by a police officer, may:
      (1)   Park or stand notwithstanding the provisions of this title;
      (2)   Proceed past a red or stop signal or stop sign, but only after slowing down as may be necessary for safe operation;
      (3)   Disregard regulations governing direction of movement or turning in specified directions so long as he or she does not endanger life or property;
      (4)   Exceed the prima facie speed limits established by this title so long as life and property is not endangered; provided however, that this exception shall not apply to ambulances.
   (B)   The exemption granted above shall apply only when the driver of the vehicle sounds a siren, bell or exhaust whistle as may be reasonably necessary, and the vehicle displays emergency lighting equipment in accordance with state law.
