The Police Chief of the city shall reside within the corporate limits of the city at the time of his or her appointment, and while serving as Chief of Police. Other persons employed by the city as sworn police officers, on either a full-time or part-time basis, shall be allowed to reside outside the corporate limits of the city at the time of such employment, and while serving as such police officers, so long as said police officers reside within such distance of the city as to allow for a reasonable response time in the event that said police officer, or officers, is called upon to respond to an emergency by the Chief of Police, or the Mayor, of the city.
