§ 34.022  SERGEANT APPOINTED BY CHIEF.
   A Sergeant may be appointed by the Chief of Police, at his or her discretion, from the ranks of patrol officers and may be returned to patrol officer at any time by the Chief of Police at his or her discretion, without benefit of any hearing whatsoever. In addition to his or her duties as a patrol officer, the Sergeant shall perform the duties to which he or she may be assigned by the Chief of Police and shall assume the duties and responsibilities of the Chief of Police in the absence of the Chief of Police. The Sergeant also has the authority for emergency suspensions and for disciplinary action in the absence of the Chief of Police.
