§ 34.011  CHIEF OF POLICE APPOINTED.
   There is hereby created the office of Chief of Police, who shall be appointed by the Mayor, with the approval of the Village Board. The Chief of Police shall be appointed and is an employee at will to the village. The Chief of Police’s term of employment shall run until he or she is suspended or dismissed for good cause or until his or her successor is appointed and qualified. Good cause for removal of the Chief of Police may be based on, but not limited to, conduct unbecoming of a police officer, lack of moral character, criminal convictions or pleas of guilty to criminal charges, poor performance of duty and the like. No one shall be deemed to have any right or property interest in the office of Chief of Police after the expiration of this term or removal from office. The Chief of Police shall be vested with the general administration, supervision and control of the Police Department and shall perform such duties as are imposed upon him or her by law or ordinance, and in addition thereto such other duties as may be assigned to him or her from time to time by the Village Board or by the Mayor. He or she shall be known also as the Village Marshal.
