The Corporation Counsel, City Attorney, and such Assistants and Special Assistants of the City shall be appointed by the City Manager, with the advice and consent of the City Council. Each may be appointed for a definite term or be appointed on an indefinite basis and shall continue in office until a successor has been appointed and qualified or until terminated by the City Manager. Each shall perform such duties as determined and directed by the City Manager. The duties of the Corporation Counsel, the City Attorney, or any Special Counsel shall not prevent said attorneys from engaging in the general practice of law in any matter not in conflict with the interests of the City of Mt. Vernon. The compensation paid to a Corporation Counsel, a City Attorney, an Assistant or Special Assistant shall be recommended by the City Manager, but shall be subject to the approval of the City Council.
