171.19 STREET LABOR IN DEFAULT OF FINE PAYMENT.
   In case the fine imposed by any judgment of the Police Judge and the costs are not promptly paid, the Police Judge may sentence the party in default to work out the amount of the fine and costs under the direction, control and the custody of the Chief of Police or Commissioner of Public Works on the public streets or other work of the City,at a rate not below the minimum wage law of the State existing at that time. In case the party in default shall fail or refuse to do the work so required of him, the party shall be imprisoned until the amount of the fine and the costs shall be paid or the party in default shall signify his willingness to do the work required of him, but the term of imprisonment in such case shall not exceed thirty days. During the time that any party fined as aforesaid shall be engaged in so working out the amount of the fine and costs imposed upon him, he shall be deemed in the custody of the officer and shall be boarded at the expense of the City.
