Pursuant to KRS 431.007, the Police Department may respond to request for assistance from law enforcement agencies outside the city in conformity with the following regulations:
(A) In the event of a staffing or other emergency in any other county or city, members of the Police Department may be assigned to duty in the other county or city when so requested by the law enforcement agency in that county or city. The Police Department may also respond to counties or cities when there are non-emergency situations which require special equipment or training which the county or city does not possess. Unless otherwise agreed between the agencies, when members of the Police Department respond to such calls for assistance, the ranking law enforcement officer of the jurisdiction making the request shall be deemed the commander.
(B) In exercising the discretion to send members of the Police Department out of the city as above set out, the Mayor and Chief of Police shall at all times ascertain to the best of their ability the necessity for such assistance and shall also give primary and due consideration to the requirements of adequate police protection for the city.
(C) Pursuant to KRS 431.008, when a member of the Police Department is lawfully conducting an assistance operation under this section, any insurance relative to the performance of his duties, including, but not limited to, workers' compensation, health, liability, and motor vehicle insurance, shall remain in force.
(D) Reimbursements for services shall be made in accordance with the Commonwealth of Kentucky Statewide Emergency Management Mutual Aid and Assistance Agreement.
(E) The Mayor shall have authority to sign agreements and memoranda of understanding with other law enforcement jurisdiction as necessary to effectuate the intent of KRS 431.007 and this section.
