The Fire Chief is responsible for fire protection, fire prevention, and any other hazards to life and property within the municipal limits of the city. He or she shall direct and control fire suppression operations and investigate their cause. He or she shall have access to and the use of all fire hydrants and water sources within the municipal limits for the purpose of extinguishing fires. He or she shall have control over the building, hose, engines, and other equipment provided for the Fire Department. The Fire Chief shall be responsible for all expenditures and direct the operations of the members of the Fire Department in the discharge of their duties. He or she shall preside at all regular and special meetings of the Fire Department, preserve order, and decide all points of order that may arise. He or she shall further perform any other duties as the city shall, by ordinance, prescribe. In case the Fire Chief cannot be present at a Council meeting, he or she shall have a subordinate present.
