4-4-23: CATALYTIC CONVERTERS:
   A.    Purpose: The City recognizes theft of catalytic converters has risen dramatically in the community. Catalytic converters are targeted for theft because they are located on the exterior of cars and because they contain high value metals that can be sold for scrap. The City wishes to minimize theft by prohibiting the possession of a used catalytic converter that is not attached to a motor vehicle unless the individual provides verification of legal receipt.
   B.    Definitions: For purposes of this Section, the following words and terms shall have the following meanings, unless the context clearly indicates otherwise:

CATALYTIC CONVERTER:
A device incorporated in the exhaust system of a motor vehicle, containing a catalyst for converting gases into less toxic pollutants.

   C.   Possession of Catalytic Converters: No person shall be in possession of a used catalytic converter that is not attached to a motor vehicle unless the person can provide verification of legal receipt of the catalytic converter. (Ord. 2022-11, 4-25-2022)
