   (a)   Appearance of Numbers. All numbers contained in an address shall be displayed using the applicable Arabic numerals 0 through 9. Numbers may not be spelled out as words. For example, an address is properly displayed as “321" but not “Three Twenty One”. Such numerals shall be at least three (3) inches in height and shall be of a color contrasting with the color of the background material to which they are affixed. All numerals must be made of substantial and permanent material, and must be so placed or affixed as not to be easily affected or removed.
   (b)   Location of Numbers. Numbers shall be positioned not less than four (4) feet nor more than twelve (12) feet from the surface of the ground directly below them. Numbers shall be affixed to or within three (3) feet of the exterior door facing the street, if such door exists. The location and size of numbers shall be sufficient to be legible when viewed from the center line of the street on which it fronts.
   (c)   Corner Lots. With respect to buildings that abut an intersection of two or more streets, the required numbers shall be located on the side of the building facing the street corresponding to the assigned number. To the extent a building has an exterior door on the side of the structure facing the street corresponding to the assigned number, then the number shall be affixed to the exterior door or within three (3) feet of the exterior door.
   (d)   Location of Additional Numbers. If a building sets back more than fifty (50) feet from the near-edge of the street, or if any numerals affixed to such building in accordance with subsections (a), (b) and (c) are not easily legible from the street because of obstruction or otherwise, then the required numbers shall be affixed to a post, sign, fence, tree, mailbox or other object which shall be located within twenty-five (25) feet from the near-edge of the street, and shall be easily legible from the street.
   (e)   Multiple Occupancy Structures. For buildings containing two (2) or more dwelling units, stores, offices, or any combinations thereof, and which have entrances from interior passageways, numbers for such dwelling units, stores or offices shall be affixed to or within three (3) feet of every exterior door of the building and from which access of such dwelling units, stores or offices may be gained. In addition, the identifying letter or numeral shall be affixed to the exterior door of each unit, store, office or combination thereof. Otherwise, the specifications and locations for such numerals shall be as for other buildings.
