(A) The physician in attendance on every case of a human being bitten by an animal shall make a report thereof to the County Health Department. If no physician is in attendance, and the person bitten is an adult, then that person shall make such report. If the person bitten is a minor, the parent or guardian shall make such report. (B) Except as otherwise provided, the owner or keeper of any animal known to have attacked or bitten any human being, and any peace officer or operator of any animal shelter having custody of any such animal, shall keep such animal confined for a period of ten days. The person having such custody during such period shall make an immediate report to the County Health Department if such animal dies or is destroyed. If the animal lives beyond such period, that fact shall also be reported. ('77 Code, § 3-25)
(C) (1) Where a licensed veterinarian examines an animal which has bitten a human being and determines that a high probability of rabies in the animal exists, such veterinarian may destroy the animal immediately and initiate the proper laboratory procedure to determine the existence of rabies in the animal.
(2) Where an animal confined pursuant to this subchapter is determined to have rabies, it shall be destroyed by a licensed veterinarian.
