Any land that is annexed to the city shall be included in the AO agriculture-open space district unless the resolution annexing the land specifies a different zoning designation, in which case, that zoning designation shall apply. The zoning designation shall apply until such time that the city council rezones the land to another district after recommendation by the planning commission. In the event the resolution annexing land specifies a zoning designation, such designation shall be reviewed by the planning commission prior to passage of the resolution by the city council.
