In the event of termination of the franchise or abandonment of the gas facilities or system, the city shall have the right to require company to discontinue providing service to natural gas customers within the city (or a portion thereof) and to take all steps reasonably necessary to maintain the safety of the existing system after service is discontinued or abandoned.
