4-5-1: REQUIREMENTS FOR EMERGENCY OR STAND-BY GENERATORS:
Emergency or stand-by generators attached to or used in residential, commercial or industrial structures or uses must be served by a 3-wire, 120/240 volt, single phase electrical service having a rating of not less than sixty (60) amps. 120 volt-60 amp service requires a generator to be at least seven thousand two hundred (7,200) watts, 240 volt-60 amp service requires a minimum fourteen thousand four hundred (14,400) watt generator, connected by a transfer switch. All units must meet all Building Code, State Electrical and Fire Code requirements and all generators must meet noise limits set by State Statute or Minn. R. 7030.0040, or any replacement regulation, for all areas of service. (Example, the statutory limits for a residential location are L10 = 65 dBA and L50 = 60 dBA during the daytime (7:00 A.M. - 10:00 P.M.) and L10 = 55 dBA and L50 = 50 dBA during the nighttime (10:00 P.M. - 7:00 A.M.). This means that during the 1-hour period of monitoring, daytime noise levels cannot exceed 65 dBA for more than 10 percent of the time or 60 dBA more than 50 percent of the time.) (Ord. 947, 5-7-2018)
