8-2-9: ELEVATORS, ESCALATORS, MOVING WALKS AND CONVEYANCES:
   A. Prior to the approval of any elevator, escalator, moving walk, platform lift or stairway lift, the building official shall require the submittal of a building permit application with four (4) complete sets of plans, specifications and construction documents. The permit application shall also include the State registration number for the elevator installer. Plan review and evaluation shall be conducted by a third party review agency and all review fees as computed by such review agency shall be paid by the permit applicant. All elevators and associated conveyances are subject to a biannual safety inspection and certification. All inspection and certification fees shall be paid by the owner of the building in which the conveyance is located.
   B. Elevators and conveying devices and their components shall comply with the State of Illinois "Elevator Safety Act 1 " and its Rules. The following codes and standards are adopted as minimum standards for the installation of elevators, escalators, moving walks and conveyances:

   ASME A17.2 - Guide for Inspection of Elevators, Escalators, and Moving Walks
   ASME A17.3 - Safety Code for Existing Elevators and Escalators but only as required under section 35(h) and (i) of the Act
   ASME A17.7 - CSA B44.7-07, Performance Based Safety Code for Elevators and Escalators
   ASME A-18.1 - Safety Standard for Platform Lifts and Stairway Chairlifts
   ASME QEI-1 - Standard for the Qualifications of Elevator Inspectors
   ANSI A10.4 - Safety Requirements for Personal Hoists and Employee Elevators
   ASCE 21, Part 1 - Automated People Mover Standards
