9-1-11: YIELD RIGHT OF WAY INTERSECTIONS, STREETS:
   A.   The driver of a vehicle in obedience to a yield right of way sign shall reduce the speed of his vehicle to not more than twenty (20) miles per hour and shall yield the right of way to other vehicles which have entered the intersecting highway either from the right or left or which are approaching so closely on said intersecting highway as to constitute an immediate hazard; but said driver having so yielded may proceed at such time as a safe interval occurs.    B.   "Yield right of way" means the act of granting the privilege of the immediate use of the intersecting roadway to traffic within the intersection and to vehicles approaching from the right or left; provided, that when the roadway is clear, the vehicle may proceed into the intersection.
   C.   The streets and parts of streets of the village designated by this section as right of way streets are hereby declared to be right of way streets. The driver of a vehicle approaching the entrance to a right of way street shall yield the right of way to other vehicles on a right of way street which have entered the intersection or which are approaching from the right or the left so close as to constitute a hazard, unless traffic at such intersection is controlled by a police officer on duty, in which event the directions of the police officer shall be complied with.
   D.   Adequate official yield right of way signs designating the right of way streets shall be erected. (Ord. 1958-4, 4-1-1958; amd. 1997 Code)
