A police officer, upon honorable retirement with ten (10) or more years of service, or a police officer who is retiring with less than ten years of service and is totally physically disabled as a result of service as a police officer, is authorized to receive from the Village:
(a) Any officer electing to surrender their Ohio Peace Officer Certification will be considered an honorary member of the department and receive the following:
(1) The complete standard uniform from the Millersburg Police Department. The uniform may be worn by the officer in public in retirement only on the following occasions: Police Officers' Memorial Day, Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, at the funeral of a law-enforcement officer or during any other police ceremony.
(2) An identification card indicating their honorable retirement from the Department.
(3) A badge of the Millersburg Police Department with the word "retired" placed on it.
(4) Their service weapon after a determination by the Chief of Police that the officer has not been declared mentally incompetent by a licensed physician or a court of law, or who, in the opinion of the Chief of Police, does not constitute a danger to any person or the community.
(b) Any officer electing to maintain their Ohio Peace Officer Certification will receive the following benefits:
(1) All the benefits listed in section (a) above.
(2) All authority granted a peace officer commissioned under Ohio Revise Code 737.16 and the Millersburg Police Department Lexipol Policy 100. (Ord. 2019-103. Passed 4-8-19.)
