(a) A person hired by the Village is an independent contractor if the Village has the right to control or direct only the result of the work, and not what will be done and how it will be done.
(b) Before hiring an independent contractor to perform work in sensitive areas of the Village property, including but not limited to areas where the Village's computers, evidence lockers, guns and ammunition are located, the Village will perform a background check of the independent contractor and person(s) working with the independent contractor.
