1505.03 SMOKE DETECTORS REQUIRED IN EXISTING RESIDENTIAL USES.
   (a)   All existing residential uses, as defined by Section 309.0 of the Ohio Basic Building Code, except one-, two- and three-family dwelling units, shall be provided with a minimum of one approved smoke detector in the sleeping area, guest room, or suite of a hotel, motel, lodging house, boarding house or in buildings of use Group R-1 and in dwelling units within buildings of use Groups R-2 and R-3. Each detector shall be installed in accordance with NFiPA 74 listed in Rule 1301:7-7-34 of the Ohio Fire Code. When actuated, the smoke detector shall provide an alarm suitable to warn the occupants within the individual room or unit.
   (b)   It shall be unlawful to tamper or interfere with the effectiveness of a smoke detector.
