For the purpose of this chapter, the following definitions shall apply unless the context clearly indicates or requires a different meaning.
SOLICITOR. Any nonresident individual who temporarily, for himself or herself, or for any other person, firm, or corporation hires, leases, uses, or occupies any building, structure, tent, railroad car, hotel room, lodging house, apartment, shop, trailer, or any other place within the city or travels either by foot, automobile, motor truck, or any other type of conveyance from place to place, from house to house, or from street to street, to take orders for the sale of goods, wares, and merchandise, personal property, and services of any kind or nature whatsoever for present or future delivery, taking subscriptions to periodicals, or for services to be furnished or performed in the future, whether or not such individual has, carries, or exposes for sale a sample of the subject of such sale or collects any advance payment on such sale.
TRANSIENT MERCHANT, ITINERANT MERCHANT, or PEDDLER. Any person, firm, or corporation, whether as owner, agent, consignee, or employee, who shall bring any stock of goods, wares, or merchandise into this city and shall engage in a temporary place, store, or room from which to sell same or who shall engage in the sale of any stock of goods, wares, merchandise, or services from any wagon, wagons, or other vehicles or motor vehicles on the streets or from any railroad cars or other temporary house, buildings, or place shall be deemed a TRANSIENT MERCHANT, except that this definition does not include a local merchant having a permanent location within the city who temporarily operates from another location.
