For the purpose of this subchapter, the following definitions shall apply unless the context clearly indicates or requires a different meaning.
AT LARGE. To be off the premises of the owner and not under the control of the owner or a member of his or her immediate family over 12 years of age, either by leash or otherwise. A dog upon the running board or within an automobile of its owner shall be deemed upon its owner’s property.
CAT. Includes all domesticated members of felis catus, male or female.
DOG. Includes all domesticated members of canis familiaris, male or female.
LEASH. A cord, thong, or chain, by which a dog is controlled by the person accompanying it.
LICENSED CAT. Any cat whose owner has met all of the requirements of this subchapter.
LICENSED DOG. Any dog whose owner has met all the requirements of this subchapter.
OFFICER. Includes any official with the power and authority of an officer of the peace.
OWNER. Includes any person, firm, or corporation, owning, harboring, or keeping a dog or cat.
UNLICENSED DOG. Refers to a dog whose owner has not met the requirements of this subchapter.
VICIOUS DOG. Refers to any dog, when unprovoked, in a vicious or terrorizing manner approaches in apparent attitude of attack, or bites, inflicts injury, assaults, or otherwise attacks a human being upon the streets, sidewalks, or any public grounds or places; or any dog which, on private property, when unprovoked, in a vicious or terrifying manner approaches in apparent attitude of attack, or bites, or inflicts injury, or otherwise attacks a mail carrier, meter reader, serviceman, journeyman, delivery person, or other employed person who is on private property by reason of permission of the owner or occupant of such property or who is on private property by reason of a course of dealing with the owner of such private property.
