The Chief of Police is authorized to appoint school patrols at such schools as he or she may deem necessary to assist the police in the control of traffic at intersections near such schools during certain designated hours of the school day. The members of such school patrols shall be furnished appropriate clothing, flags, and signals with which to direct traffic, and such signals and no others will be used by such school patrols in the direction of traffic. It is unlawful for the operator of any vehicle or pedestrian to fail to obey the “stop” or “caution” signals of the members of the school patrols.
