8-2-6: RESPONSIBILITY FOR EXCAVATION AND RESTORED AREA:
The permittee shall accept responsibility for backfilling, repairing and safeguarding an excavation. During the period prior to official acceptance by the village of responsibility for an excavation, the permittee shall be fully responsible for suitable protection of the excavation in such manner as to prevent accidents therefrom to persons, vehicles and animals passing near the same; any neglect so to do shall be considered a violation of this chapter. Whenever the permittee has broken a portion of a square of sidewalk, the entire square shall be replaced, and the total square shall be replaced, and the square footage replaced. Whenever the excavation requires the cutting of concrete pavement, the permittee shall make cuts using a cutting blade that will give a straight edge on the surface of the concrete. Whenever water service lines, sewer lines or gas service lines cross an improved street or alley, the same shall be installed by jacking, drilling or boring method, or as approved by the building inspector.
