For the purpose of this chapter, the following definitions shall apply unless the context clearly indicates or requires a different meaning.
MEDIUM TREE. Any tree species which normally attains a full-grown height between 26 and 50 feet.
LARGE TREE. Any tree species which normally attains a full-grown height in excess of 50 feet.
SMALL TREE. Any tree species which normally attains a full-grown height under 26 feet.
STREET TREES. Trees, shrubs, bushes and all other woody vegetation on land lying within the right-of-way of any streets, avenues or ways, or otherwise on public property, within the city.
STREET TREE PLANTING AREA. A planting area with a minimum width of 5 feet between the sidewalk and the street pavement edge, located immediately adjacent and parallel to the street pavement edge. If no sidewalk exists, then the street tree planting area shall be a minimum width of 10 feet located immediately adjacent and parallel to the street pavement edge.
TOPPING. The severe cutting back of limbs to stubs within the tree's crown to such a degree so as to remove the normal canopy and disfigure the tree.
