For the purpose of this chapter, the following definitions shall apply unless the context clearly indicates or requires a different meaning.
ALARM SYSTEM OR DEVICE or SYSTEM. Any equipment or assembly of equipment, of whatever nature, designed to detect and signal an unauthorized intrusion into or upon premises or to signal an attempted burglary or robbery at premises, with respect to which signal police are expected to respond.
ALARM USER or USER. Any person, group of persons, association, firm, partnership, corporation or organization, of any kind, in ownership, possession or control of any building, structure or facility, including vehicles, vessels, campers or trailers, wherein or whereupon a system is maintained or installed for activation in the event of any unauthorized intrusion, burglary or robbery upon or at such building structure or facility.
AUDIBLE-VISUAL ALARM. Any device designed for the protection against unauthorized entry on premises which device generates an external, audible sound or flashing light or both when activated.
AUTOMATIC DIALING DEVICE. A device which is interconnected to a telephone line and is programmed to select a predetermined telephone number and transmit by voice message or code signal an emergency message indicating a need for emergency response.
FALSE ALARM. The activation of an alarm system through mechanical failure, malfunction, improper installation or the negligence of the owner or lessee of an alarm system or of his or her employees, agents or invitees. Such terminology does not include, for example, alarms caused by hurricanes, storms or other violent conditions which are clearly beyond the control of the alarm user.
INTERCONNECT. To connect any alarm system, including an automatic dialing device, to a telephone line, either directly or through a mechanical device, that utilizes a telephone for the purpose of using a telephone line to transmit a message upon the activation of the system.
PRIMARY TRUNK LINE. A telephone line servicing the Police Department designed to receive emergency calls.
