The A Agricultural District is intended to provide options for landowners in the A District to preserve and provide for large tracts; of land used for farming, dairying, forestry and other rural activities as well as allowing property owners to further develop their property in a manner that is more in keeping with the character of the surrounding areas.
Recognizing that agricultural areas are located on the fringe of the City’s urban areas, the A Agricultural District allows for context sensitive open space developments. These open space developments serve as areas of transition between the traditional development patterns of the higher density urban environment and the low density rural environment. The specific intent is to encourage the proper use and site planning of lands by preventing the indiscriminate encroachment of higher density urban patterns into rural areas by preserving natural topography and wooded areas; creating usable and accessible open space, recreational areas, and green corridors for wildlife, walking trails and/or bike paths; and encouraging creativity in design through a controlled process of review and approval.
