§ 113.011 NOISE MITIGATION - NOISE FROM MOVING TRAINS AND FIXED FACILITIES.
   (A)   For noise sensitive land uses defined to be within a “severely impacted” zone under the FTA Manual, consideration of noise mitigation is required. Metra will use reasonable steps to attempt to substantially reduce noise through reasonable mitigation measures that are feasible and prudent. For the purposes of this policy, a minimum reduction of five dB is considered substantial. However, in attempting to achieve this noise reduction, the cost of mitigation will not exceed $30,000 per dwelling.
   (B)   For noise sensitive land uses within the “impact” zone, noise mitigation is required only when physically feasible and economically reasonable. An upper limit of $5,000 per dwelling for each decibel exceeding the impact threshold up to a total limit of $30,000 per dwelling is considered economically reasonable. Noise mitigation measures to be considered include, but are not limited to, wayside noise barriers and berms, residential sound insulation, buffer zones and noise easements.
