A. Every person convicted of a misdemeanor shall be punished by imprisonment in the city or county jail for not more than six (6) months, or by a fine of not more than one thousand dollars ($1,000.00), or by both fine and imprisonment, unless the statute or ordinance in force at the time of commission of such misdemeanor prescribes a different penalty.
B. In lieu of all or a part of the punishment which may be imposed pursuant to subsection A of this section, if the convicted person agrees, he may be sentenced to perform a fixed period of work for the benefit of the community under the conditions prescribed in Nevada Revised Statutes section 176.087.
