6-2-1: OFFICIAL TRAFFIC SIGNS AND SIGNALS:
   A.   Whenever traffic regulations created by this code require the erection of traffic control devices for enforcement, the street department for the city is hereby authorized and directed to secure, erect and maintain uniform traffic control devices conforming to the "Uniform Traffic Control Device Manual" promulgated by the Wisconsin department of transportation giving notice of such traffic regulations to the users of the streets and highways on which such regulations apply. Whenever state law grants discretion to local authorities in erecting or placing of a uniform traffic control device, devices shall be erected in such locations and in such a manner as in the judgment of the chief of police of the city will carry out the purposes of this code and give adequate warning to users of the streets and highways of the city.
   B.   The street department shall have the authority granted by section 349.09, Wisconsin statutes, and is hereby directed to remove, upon the order of the chief of police, the sign, signal, marking or device placed, maintained or displayed in violation of this title or section 346.41, Wisconsin statutes.
   C.   The street superintendent for the city is hereby authorized to procure, erect, and maintain yield signs at such locations in the city as the chief of police, in his sole discretion, deems necessary in the interest of public safety. Upon erection of the above described yield sign or signs, the street superintendent shall file with the city clerk a statement setting forth the location of each yield sign, the direction of traffic on said street or highway which is regulated by said yield sign and the date on which the yield sign was erected. In the event that the chief of police deems it necessary or advisable in the interest of public safety to remove a yield sign previously erected, the street superintendent shall file with the city clerk a statement as to the location of the yield sign to be removed, the street or highway previously regulated by the yield sign, the direction of the travel on said street or highway previously regulated, and the date which said yield sign was removed.
