5-1-1: FIREARMS; BOWS AND ARROWS:
   A.   Definitions:
      1.   Except as otherwise defined herein, all words and phrases shall have the same meanings and definitions as contained in the applicable Minnesota statutes then in force and effect.
      2.   "Air gun" means any air rifle, air gun, BB gun, spring gun or similar device for the propulsion of shot or other metal or plastic pellet by means of compressed air or mechanical spring action. (1981 Code 903 § 3)
   B.   Discharge Of Firearms: No person shall hereafter shoot, fire off, discharge or explode any gun, air gun, pistol, revolver, or other firearm or bow and arrows within the corporate limits of the city, except as hereinafter provided. (1981 Code 903 § 1; amd. Ord. 349, 4-21-2000; 2003 Code)
   C.   Exemptions:
      1.   Firearms: Nothing herein contained shall prohibit the use of firearms:
         a.   By duly authorized police officers and law enforcement officers.
         b.   When used in the lawful defense of persons or property or family. (1981 Code 903 § 2)
         c.   When used in conjunction with a youth firearm safety training program duly approved by the appropriate officials of the state and when operated under the supervision of instructors certified by the department of natural resources of the state. (1981 Code 903 § 2; amd. 2003 Code)
      2.   Bow And Arrows: Nothing herein contained shall prohibit the use of a bow and arrows by individuals authorized by the city to participate in deer hunts for the purpose of thinning the deer population of the city or for target practice by special permit issued by the police department.       3.   Limitation On Exemptions: No use permitted in this subsection shall be deemed to authorize the doing of any act or thing otherwise forbidden or regulated by any enactment of the United States or the state or regulations promulgated pursuant to any such enactment. (1981 Code 903 § 2)
