(a) There is hereby created the position of twelve driver operators, formerly known as assistant firemen, appointed by the Mayor with the advice and consent of Council. Their term of office shall be for one year.
(b) The driver operators shall be the relief men for the full-time firemen, and when on duty in the absence of the full-time firemen, exercise the same duties and have the same responsibilities as the firemen hereinbefore mentioned.
(c) The Fire Chief shall schedule the driver operators to relieve or replace the full-time firemen when such full-time firemen are off duty.
