§ 71.62 ENGINE BRAKING NOISE.
   (A)   Prohibition. It shall be unlawful to make excessive engine braking noise while operating any vehicle upon any street within the corporate limits of the village.
   (B)   Signs. The Director of Public Works is hereby authorized and directed to purchase and install signs consistent with division (C) below designating the following areas as “excessive engine braking noise prohibited” areas:
      (1)   Northbound and southbound traffic on State Route 47 within the corporate limits of the village; and
      (2)   Eastbound and westbound traffic on Grand Ridge Road within the corporate limits of the village.
   (C)   Engine braking sign, R5-I106.
      (1)   The standard size sign shall be 30 inches wide by 36 inches high with three-inch D letters. The plaque size will vary with the message.
      (2)   For high-speed locations or multi-lane highways, a larger-sized 48-inch by 60-inch sign with five-inch D letters may be used.
      (3)   The sign shall be black on white and shall be retroreflective.
      (4)   The message on the sign is prescribed by statute (see § 12-602.1 of the State Vehicle Code (Public Act 094-0756) and 92 Ill. Adm. Code 547, Engine Braking Signs).
      (5)   A plaque should be used to define the extent of the prohibition such as “next X miles,” “on village streets,” “next X blocks” and the like and may indicate a time such as 8:00 p.m. through 7:00 a.m.
